In January 2015, BMDP invited Appco Group Singapore to a special event – Celebration of Heroes – to recognise the people who donated their bone marrow to save someone’s life.
BMDP is continuing to work with Appco Singapore with the aim to have 17,000 donors every year for the next three years.

Even charities need help too

An anonymous act of charity started in a humble town in Italy. A person enters an unassuming coffee shop and pays for two cups even if he’s alone and no, that person isn’t a caffeine addict. He is actually paying for the coffee in advance so that it may soon be served to a poor person in need of warmth. Several places across the globe are now mirroring such act with some even offering meals. Needless to say, kindness can have a ripple effect.

In The Spotlight: Wong Chee Wai

How did you get started in the business?
I joined in September 2002. I was working as an investment banker back then and was just looking around. I came for interview as usual, was brought to ‘observe’ the fieldwork and it was door-to-door sales. I obviously didn’t take the job as I was still working in the bank, but my Owner kept in touch about twice a week for seven weeks. After seven weeks of ‘selling me the business’, I decided to try it out.
What has your journey within the business been like so far?
I have been here for 12 years now, so it has been quite a journey. Who would have thought that anyone could last that long in one place? I think I have learned and changed a lot in this business because this business makes you change. You deal with thousands of people every day – from customers to new trainees to teammates to office staff – one has to improve oneself constantly. I’ve had to do that all these years – keep learning, keep changing, keep improving, keep setting the pace.
What has been your biggest achievement so far?
Getting promoted to Vice President! =)
What advice would you give to someone starting their journey with the business?
1. Get with the right people. Feed your brain the right food – the right people will help you develop the right habits and almost directly influence
your success rate.
2. Come in with a student mentality. There is a lot to learn if you keep your eyes and ears open. The ones that watch, ask questions and copy
are the ones that advance quickly in our business.
3. Do not QUIT. It is always difficult at the beginning but if you stick with it, you will eventually learn it and then you will like it.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
In Vegas, in Miami or in New York? =)
I see myself as James’ business partner, improving the strategic and operational excellence of the region. I believe we could be in China by that time and my goal is to have more than 5,000 Field Representatives within the group in Asia by then.
What are your plans for the future?
Business Goals – We are venturing into Vietnam in May 2015, and possibly Taiwan later this year as well. I am looking to assist these two countries to be profitable and strong within the first 12 months. In addition, I want to develop more than 100 Owners within the organisation over the next five years.
Personal Goals – I am married now. So I should have kids by then. I want to be a great father and raise my kids to be better than me!
Other stuff? Owning a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, yacht, private jet, massive mansion and to own my own hotel – you think I am joking don’t you?
What are you hoping to accomplish by the end of the year?
I am aiming to see a new country every year and this year is no different. I also want to get Hong Kong up to more than 100 Field Representatives, Thailand to more than 600 Field Representatives and to help promote four Organisational Heads this year.
How do you relax away from the office?
I do a variety of different things – from watching movies to sports to games to reading. I keep myself entertained all the time – it is the key to keeping yourself fresh!

In The Spotlight: Kittisak Wujchalapong (Bomb)

How did you get started in the business?
I feel this business is my destiny! During my last two years in university, my brother Senior Promoting Owner Nuttawat Wujchalapong (Bon) of Image Professional Limited hosted team nights at our house, and I usually joined them although I had no clue about his business and what he did. In my last year of university, Bon informed the family that he had the opportunity to open up a new office. I wondered how he was able to run his own business in such a short period of time. After that, I graduated from university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Communication Engineering. At one of our family dinners, Bon talked about his work and it got my attention, and I decided to join him. Although my parents disagreed with my choice, Bon took me to an Owners Meeting in Singapore. After this trip, I decided to join Bon’s office and give this business a go.
What has your journey within the business been like so far?
This business has shaped every aspect of my life and has made me a better person. I am now a mature young business Owner who is able to sell, lead a team, give speeches, and have clear goals and aspirations in life. I was promoted to Branch Manager in 18 months, which was just shy of my goal of 12 months. As a Branch Owner, I have realised that this is not the end but the real beginning of my business journey. I always say, “Fail as many times as you want and don’t dare be upset as you are constantly learning” and when it’s your turn to run your own business you will have learned from these mistakes. My journey in this business has been amazing as I really enjoy solving problems every day. I have never regretted refusing my MBA scholarship as I have learned more in two years here than I would have in a classroom. I believe success is not a destination but a journey.
What has been your biggest achievement so far?
Having the privilege to write for ‘In The Spotlight’ and be on the ‘Cover’ of the Q4 2014 Leader Magazine has been the biggest achievement so far. I still remember my first rally in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February 2011 when Bon was on the cover and he was awarded the ‘New Marketing Office of the Year’. I was tremendously proud of Bon and that moment inspired me to become the number one office in Asia, to be number one on the Asian Bulletin, and to see my team pick up their awards on stage. Another big achievement for me is promoting two Branch Managers one after the other in only two months, breaking 70 headcounts in the organisation, and being pioneers in the telecommunications and cosmetics divisions in Thailand.
What advice would you give to someone starting their journey within the business?
This business is amazing as it changes people’s lives for the better. Working here, you will develop your communication and social skills. This business provides an opportunity for you to socialise with endless amount of people. Thus, you should appreciate what you have and enjoy every minute.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
My goal is to be Vice President in 2020 and that is six years from now. At that time, I will be flying between my organisation in Thailand and in another country, assisting in opening new offices, running the daily operations, and helping my Owners to run a profitable business. In addition, I would have my own rally and meetings. I hope to own many properties both in Thailand and abroad, and invest in my own restaurant. Most importantly, I would like have more time to spend with my loved ones.
What are your plans for the future?
Business Goals
I would like to have 50 branches in Thailand and another 50 branches overseas. If possible, visit my organisation in any country I holiday in. I want to be a great mentor and advisor.
Personal Goals
Drive an Aston Martin or a Bentley. I want to own a big house with entertainment rooms and a swimming pool. I want to have a loving family and be able to support them. My ultimate goal is to be able to buy anything I want and to travel around the world.
What are you hoping to accomplish by the end of this year?
I want to see my organisation expand to over 100 Field Representatives and to promote three Owners within my organisation. I will be promoted to Senior Promoting Owner and be involved in four different divisions. I will also be Product Head of Cosmetics and PayTV divisions and my outside deals will operate strongly and be profitable.
How do you relax away from the office?
I like finding new places to dine and drink. I enjoy having good food with great people, and travelling within the country and abroad. The only time I spent at home is when I’m sleeping!
